Already Read Notation? Here's How DecPlay Can Help You
As well as absolute beginners, DecPlay helps people who can already read traditional music notation. Before I created the DecPlay method, I had several years of classical lessons, then learnt chords and finally improvisation and playing by ear.
The Piano Bundle includes all the skills to enable you to have fun playing songs on piano by showing:-
- the playing patterns that make playing accompaniment easy to learn, memorise and improvise
- a form of written music (called PianoTabz) that only takes minutes to learn, as an optional alternative to traditional music
- a step by step intuitive process to build skills quickly and easily
PianoTabz shows the 'relative numbers' both for chords and melodies which makes it much easier to improvise, memorise and play by ear. These are the same numbers used in Jazz but are made much more accessible.
Once you have learnt the playing patterns in the course, you can then choose to use the PianoTabz method for song sheets or to use traditional led sheets (notation and chords).
The vast majority of our students find the transition from classical lessons to the DecPlay method easy. As there is a 30 day 'no questions asked' money back guarantee, you can try out the course and if you are not fully satisfied, it will have cost you nothing.

Works with both notation and numbers
The DecPlay method of learning can be used with standard notation lead sheets (for people who already read notation eg with traditional piano lessons) as well as DecPlay's unique number system called PianoTabz, which is ideal for people not fluent with traditional notation or who want to take advantage of the benefits of using PianoTabz (faster, easier to memorise, helps with improvisation and playing in different musical keys).
There isn't any conflict between formal / traditional piano methods and DecPlay. You have a choice whether you refer to notes and chords by letters or alternatively by numbers. Most people find numbers easier than letters and this enables both beginners to make rapid progress and for advanced playing styles, in the same way that these numbers are used in Jazz and advanced classical music theory.
Notation, busking and playing by ear
The DecPlay method is also a bridge between the formal method ie 'notation' and 'busking' ie playing using chords and melody and playing by ear. DecPlay takes the most useful parts of these methods and combines them in a way that is so easy to understand that people without any piano experience at all, as well as people who have had traditional piano lessons, can learn to play songs on piano really quickly.
